The high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) is the core United Nations platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting of the HLPF in 2021 will be held from Tuesday, 6 July, to Thursday, 15 July 2021, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Tuesday, 13 July, to Thursday, 15 July 2021 as part of the high-level segment of the Council.
The theme will be "Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development".
The HLPF in 2021 will discuss Sustainable Development Goals 1 on no poverty, 2 on zero hunger, 3 on good health and well-being, 8 on decent work and economic growth, 10 on reduced inequalities, 12 on responsible consumption and production, 13 on climate action, 16 on peace, justice and strong institutions, and 17 on partnerships. The Forum will also consider the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The SDGs in Action Film Festival, coordinated by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, is an initiative to mobilize the creative community around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is convened as a Special Event in connection with the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the UN central platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs.
The Festival offers grass-root filmmakers around the globe the chance to submit animated or live-action films up to 20 minutes long that showcase a person or project working on tangible solutions to the world’s biggest threats and making the Global Goals our reality.
Entries were accepted in the following categories for 2021:
1) Rebuilding communities from COVID-19;
2) Protecting our planet; and
3) Advancing gender equality.
Due to COVID-19, the 2021 SDGs in Action Film Festival will be held virtually. Films included in the official selection this year are made available online. Winners will be recognized at the Award Ceremony held virtually on 12 July 2021, 11:00am-12:15pm EDT. (Livestreamed on UN WebTV, European Broadcasting Union Networks, and Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Networks)

15 July | The Invisible Crisis: Climate Change Drives Hunger in Southern Madagascar
Southern Madagascar is experiencing its worst drought in four decades that has left an estimated 1.3 million people food insecure, warns the World Food Programme (WFP). Calling it a tragedy caused by the impact of climate change at its worst, the UN agency says that the Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) level in children under-five in Madagascar has almost doubled over the last four months, to an alarming 16.5 per cent.

Musicians around the world continue to lend their voice and talent to promote the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDG Action Campaign partners with renowned Italian artists - Margherita Vicario, Populous and Epoque - ahead of the UN Food System (26 July) and the Climate Conference (30 September) pre-summits as well as the G20 Summit (30 October) in Italy, to launch a music activation in Milan called, Play:Fair for People and Planet, on 17 July to further amplify the music industry’s support for sustainability and a healthier planet. The activation will culminate during the UN General Assembly high-level week in New York (17 to 28 September).
